How to prepare so we get those authentic, beautiful moments together

PREPARATION

A well-prepared session is the foundation for timeless images. We’re going outdoors, so let’s make sure everything aligns: your wardrobe, the children’s mood, our rendez-vous time and plan — all set so you can relax and just enjoy.

WARDROBE

For outdoor sessions, I recommend a clean, light style and color palette rather than bold prints or strong logos. Consider soft, neutral shades that complement the natural environment.

Recommended tones include:

  • Whites, creams, light beiges, soft greys
  • Pastels, dusty pinks, sage green, light blue
  • Jeans or denim for a casual touch
  • Accent details: silver or gold jewellery, a soft scarf, a simple hat

Style suggestions:

  • For you: A flowy dress, a skirt with a simple top, or a comfortable blouse with jeans. Something you feel confident in, with movement and ease.
  • For your partner: Casual-elegant – chinos or nice jeans with a shirt or sweater, comfortable shoes.
  • For your children: Comfortable fabrics (cotton, linen, knits), clothes that allow for movement and play. Bring a second outfit if possible.
  • Avoid: Loud graphics, oversized logos, neon colours, clothing that restricts movement or will distract from the connection in the images.

How many outfits?

One well-chosen outfit is perfect. If you’d like variety, you’re welcome to bring a second option (especially useful for children or partners) so we can switch during the session.

ACCESSORIES & DETAILS

Details make your story unique. Consider bringing items that hold meaning: a favourite toy for your child, a soft blanket, a piece of jewellery you love, a hat, or something heirloom. These pieces add personality and authenticity to your images.

KIDS & FAMILY DYNAMICS

Children bring warmth, spontaneity, and real moments — and we want to foster that. A few tips to make the experience smoother:

  • Let your children know a little beforehand what to expect: “We’re going out to play and have some beautiful photos taken.”
  • Ensure they are well-rested and nourished. A small snack or drink on hand is helpful.
  • Bring a favourite item or comfort object (toy, blanket, stuffed animal) to help them feel secure.
  • Allow time for play and interaction rather than stiff posing. My role is to guide and capture the natural flow of your family’s connection.
  • Your patience and calm are key: when you’re relaxed, your children are more likely to be themselves and enjoy the moment.

SESSION DAY – CHECKLIST

  • Arrive a little early so we begin without rush.
  • Comfortable shoes for you (we may walk to find beautiful spots).
  • Water and small snacks for the kids.
  • Hairbrush/clips, tissues or wipes, second outfit if you brought one.
  • Let’s carry the mindset of enjoying the moment — laughter, walk-and-talk, cuddle, all moments count.

WEATHER & PLAN B

Since we’re working outdoors, we keep flexibility in mind. Good news: gentle clouds are excellent for photography!

In the event of heavy rain, strong winds or very cold weather, I will be in touch the day before or the morning of the session so we can decide together what’s best:

  • Change the session time?
  • Choose a more sheltered outdoor spot?
  • Or postpone to another day?
  • Your comfort and the success of our session are my priority.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This isn’t just a photo session — it’s a moment in time, beautifully captured. When you arrive relaxed, connected, and present, we’ll create images that reflect your authentic story. I’m here to guide and support you every step of the way.

If you have questions or want help picking outfits for the whole family, I’m happily only a message away.

Thank you for trusting me with your family’s memories — I can’t wait to see you at the session!
